Obituary for Wayne Joseph Bodwin

Wayne Joseph Bodwin, 86, died peacefully at his home, with his loving wife Jennifer by his side, from heart failure on February 23, 2018.
Wayne was born in Rhinelander, the son of Myrtle and Joseph Bodwin and he resided in Rhinelander until 1960. Over the years Wayne and his family made their home in Alaska, Oregon and eventually back to Rhinelander.
An accomplished athlete, Wayne caught the hockey bug at an early age, first skating in the youth program in Rhinelander, and then playing for the local high school (Rhinelander Hodags) where he set numerous records. After graduation Wayne progressed into Senior Hockey, playing for the Rhinelander Hornets and then on to the Semi-Pro level with the Eagle River, Wis. Falcons. Later in life, his passion for hockey would lead him to form the groundwork for the Anchorage Wolverines, a Semi-Pro Hockey Club where he served as the General Manager in Alaska (circa 1973).
Wayne graduated in 1949 from Rhinelander High School and soon after, was drafted to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After serving in the military, Wayne married and moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska where he began his successful career selling heavy machinery on the North Slope in Alaska during the oil boom.
In Alaska he enjoyed skiing, skating, boating, fishing, hunting and hiking with his family. As an avid hunter he never came home empty handed.
After retirement Wayne and Jennifer retired to Bend, Oregon where his love of horses led him to build his 45-acre horse ranch, where he boarded, trained and raised many horses for over 25 years. He loved trail riding with his wife and children.
In 2008 Wayne and Jennifer returned to Rhinelander, where he and Jennifer spent many beautiful summers on their boat and enjoyed the fire pit cocktail hour with his many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wayne enjoyed an active life and lived it to the fullest, his sense of humor, storytelling and love for family made his journey in life a special one, and one that friends and family will remember always.
Wayne leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Jennifer Bodwin; his sister, Sister Mary Bodwin (WI); his daughters, Sandy Bodwin (MS); Terry Bodwin (CA); Jean (Bodwin) McGrury (MS); Robin Bodwin (NC); Stepdaughter Lisa (Wallner) Martinez (WA); his son Joe Bodwin (CA); four grandchildren, Sam McGrury (NC); Sara McGrury (CA); Javi Martinez (WA); Cami Martinez (WA); great granddaughter, Cora Belle McGrury (NC) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
