Obituary for Dorothy L. Brown

Dorothy L. Brown, age 97 of Rhinelander, went to her heavenly home to join her God and family on December 14, 2017. She was born on February 15, 1920 in Markesan, Wisconsin to Herman and Laura (Schultz) Ehlert.

Dorothy was raised in Fond du Lac and graduated from high school there in 1938. While attending school, she met her future husband, Ralph “Razz” Brown and they were married on February 16, 1941. The couple resided in Fond du Lac before moving to Marinette, WI and then to Rhinelander in 1959 where Dorothy and Razz settled to enjoy a long and happy life while raising their two sons, John and Scott.

In addition to caring for her family, Dorothy held various employment while in Rhinelander including time at the Woolworth candy counter and many years with Rhinelander Decorating. Among her interests, Dorothy loved to decorate her home for the appropriate seasons and to entertain family and friends there. She will be fondly remembered as a gracious and caring hostess. Dorothy also enjoyed family camping trips, ice fishing when you could drive the car on to the ice, golf, and dining out with family and friends. Additionally, she enjoyed casino trips and playing many different card games. Soon after moving to Rhinelander, Dorothy was able to develop her love of Bridge and felt fortunate to join a Bridge club that provided lifelong friendships with her fellow members and their families. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Mary Circle.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Scott (Vicki) Brown of Eau Claire, WI; a daughter-in-law, Mary Krueger of Rhinelander; two grandsons, Scott C. (Laura Davidson) Brown of Oregon and Robert (Chrystle) Brown of Maine; two great grandsons, Drew and Ian; special nieces, Jeanne and Kelli and their families; as well as nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph “Razz” Brown in 2005; her son, John Brown in 2012; three sisters, Verna Grebel, Viola Krennz, and Erma Darge; and a brother, Alfred Ehlert.

The funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Wolf officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Estabrook Cemetery.
