Obituary for Marvin LeRoy Krueger

Marvin L Krueger, age 95, of Rhinelander, died on December 14, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 10, 1922 in Birnamwood, WI to William and Sophie (Schoenike) Krueger.

Marvin graduated from the Birnamwood High School on June 1st, 1939. He then spent two and a half years in the US Coast Guard during WW II. After his honorable discharge he enrolled in the Wisconsin carpentry apprenticeship program, and at the end of a four year term, he graduated as a journeyman carpenter. He then enrolled in UW Stout in September of 1950 and graduated with highest honors and received his Bachelor’s Degree. He received his Master’s Degree in 1954. He went on to teach at a vocational school, two different high schools and then accepted a position at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. After spending ten years at NMU he accepted an administrative position at Nicolet College which he retired from on October 31, 1985.

Marvin married Dorothy Jensema and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage. After his retirement he and Dorothy enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada, including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed big band music from the 1930’s and 40’s and “Stardust” was his favorite song. He also enjoyed working in his woodshop where he constructed things for family and friends. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church and also served on the North Wisconsin District Board of Directors for the Missouri Synod.

Marvin is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughters Susan(William)Hagman of Roseville, MI and Amy(Richard)Riggs of Stevens Point, WI, his two sons Larry of Stevens Point, WI and Timothy(Brenda)Krueger of Rhinelander, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a brother, two sisters, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step father and his sister.

Memorial services for Marvin will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with visitation from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, all at the St. Mark Lutheran Church. Reverend Richard Miller will officiate. Interment will be in the Forest Cemetery in Birnamwood, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name for the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. You may leave your private condolences for the Krueger family at www.carlsonfh.com.
