Obituary for Nancy Douglas

Nancy Douglas, 86 of Rhinelander died in her home on Saturday, May 16, 2020. She was born on December 11, 1933 in Rhinelander to Rueben and Mabel (Christiansen) Anderson. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1951 and never missed a class reunion. Nancy attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Social Work. She spent most of her career as a social worker with the Oneida County Social Services Department where she worked with families and youth. She loved her job, and enjoyed the respect and affection of both colleagues and clients. Nancy was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Rhinelander. An adventurous traveler, she loved recounting her trips abroad to Scandinavia and Mexico and her many journeys to visit friends around the country. She loved dogs, particularly her devoted poodle, Bijou. Nancy also loved boating with friends on the Three Lakes Chain of Lakes, spending summer and fall weekends at her cottage on Watersmeet Lake in Eagle River. Until recently, you could find Nancy and her friends socializing on Fridays at her favorite supper club, Shady Sue’s where she claimed they served ”the best old fashioned in the north woods.” Nancy is mourned and missed by many in the Rhinelander community, and is particularly remembered by her dear friends Nancy Heydon of Green Lake, Wisconsin; Sally Hannon of Carlsbad, California; Marjorie Saari of Rhinelander; and Laura Ehmann of Waterloo, Wisconsin.

Nancy will be laid to rest with her parents in the Forest Home Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences at The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for Nancy.
