Obituary for Anne Elizabeth Hoyer

The Christian Life of Anne Elizabeth (Carlson) Hoyer

February 19,1954 - June 15, 2020

Anne E. Hoyer, age 66, was taken home to heaven by her Savior, Jesus Christ on June 15, 2020, after a twenty-month battle with glioma brain cancer. God brought her into the world on February 19, 1954, in Rhinelander, WI, to Jim and Dolly Carlson. Anne’s name means “kind,” a characteristic that was evident throughout her life. Anne was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant and the light of Jesus’ kind love began to shine through her. In kindergarten she brought extra food along for kids who had none at school. She was confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was baptized. She graduated from Rhinelander Highschool in 1972. During her high school and college career, Anne worked at Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company in Rhinelander. Anne attended the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, WI, for two years majoring in special education. She finished her BA at Cardinal Stritch College in 1976.

On June 19, 1976, Anne was married to Philip Hoyer. The Lord blessed the couple with three children, Andrew, John and Elizabeth. In 1979 Phil and Anne began forty years of ministry in sharing the Gospel of salvation with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Those years took them to Brainerd, MN; Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Litchfield, MN and finally Jacksonville where they have resided for the past twenty-two years. Anne’s kindness and love influenced many people to see, feel and understand the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.

Anne had many hobbies. She loved all people and always looked for ways to encourage and help them. She was a great cook, scrapbooker, photographer, party planner, liked to sail, enjoyed sewing taught to her by her Grandmother, Betty; Packer fan and fan of her children in whatever endeavors they undertook.

During the past twenty years Anne worked for Anheuser-Busch as a specialist in human resources both at the brewery and the can plant here in Jacksonville. She loved her work and the wonderful people she had the privilege to get to know and work with. She was healthy and vibrant all her life. Her career came to a quick end when she was diagnosed with glioma brain cancer on October 7, 2018. On June 15th, of this year the Lord graciously kept his promise and peacefully took Anne from the hands of her father and husband home to heaven.

Anne will be deeply missed by her family, friends and coworkers. She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Pastor Phil Hoyer (retired); her children Andrew and Jen Hoyer of Hugo, MN; John Hoyer of Orono, MN; Elizabeth and Nick Konietzko of Jacksonville, and her two grandchildren, Ava and Andrew Konietzko. Anne is survived by her 90-year-old parents—Jim and Dolly Carlson of Sarasota, FL; two sisters—Kathy and Pastor Paul Zell of Hendersonville, NC and Mary and Dr. Tom Zellmer of Gainesville, FL. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews. Her internment will take place at the home of her son, Andrew, in Hugo, MN. May the Savior comfort us all with the knowledge of the glorious reunion in heaven that he has planned for all Believers.

A celebration of life service will be held at Victory Lutheran Church, 4651 Kernan Blvd South, Jacksonville, FL, 32224, on Saturday, June 27th at 11:00am. Due to Covid 19 constraints the service will be private, keeping to the state limitation of 50 people. The family will hold a visitation from 9:30-10:30 before the service at the church for friends to share their condolences. The celebration service will be live-streamed and can be watched through victorylutheran.org and/or Facebook.com/Victory Lutheran Church. A memorial fund has been established in honor of Anne Hoyer, whose passion was teaching little children. The funds will be directed to the Victory Lutheran Church Preschool.
