Obituary for Lillian Teresa Johnson

Lillian Teresa Johnson, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Rennes Health Center. Lillian was born to Volga German immigrant parents, Henry Kramer and Margaret (Salwasser) Kramer on September 24, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan.

At a young age, Lill moved to Chicago, Illinois to live with an aunt and there is where she met the love of her life Chester Johnson. They were married on February 5, 1955 and enjoyed 62 years together raising three daughters, two of which survive her, Nancy (Roger) Watry and Mary Jane (Greg) Zeske.

Known as the “Lunch Lady” to hundreds of children that went thru Pelican Elementary School in the 80’s and early 90’s, she loved to dress up for every holiday to the delight of the children.

Her greatest joy in life was seeing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her feisty and sassy sense of humor and big bear hugs were her trademarks.

She is survived by her husband, Chester, sister Dorothy, daughters Nancy and Mary Jane, ten grandchildren Shonda (Reed) Bartsch, Jeremy (Michelle Hanold) Mortensen, Timothy Mortensen, Nathan (Sami) Hall, Erin (Seth) Wilmot, Benjamin (Lisa) Hall, Marshall (Chrissi) Watry, Sarah (James) Schmidt, Brian (Kristina) Pelkola, and Kristen (Billy) Stoll. Thirteen great grandchildren, Brook, McKenzie and Chase Wilmot; Cashton and Macklin Hall; Henry Hall; Kendall and Camden Watry, Holleigh and Jameson Schmidt; Lon Bartsch III; Connor Mortensen and Avayah Mortensen.

In addition to many nieces and nephews, she always had a special place in her heart for her niece Bev Johnson. Her family grew tremendously over the last three years when she became a resident at Rennes. She loved every one of the staff that took such wonderful care of her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, daughter Patricia Harper in 2008, two brothers and granddaughter Allison Jean Hall.

A memorial service for Lillian will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Reverend Wayne Drueck officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, December 29, 2017, also at the church. Interment will be in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery.
