Obituary for John Arthur Jesse

John A Jesse, age 93, of Rhinelander, died on February 15, 2018, at his home. He was born on October 6, 1924 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to Arthur and Flora (Emerich) Jesse.

John attended Tomahawk schools, graduating in 1942. Upon turning 18 years of age, he enlisted in the Navy and served in a mobile hospital unit during World War II, where he earned the rank of Pharmacist first class. His unit island hopped through the South Pacific, from the Russell Islands to Okinawa when the war ended. He attended the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1950. He returned to Tomahawk and was employed at Tomahawk Drug.
In 1954, He married Shirley Ifland. He was active in the J.C.s and served on the Tomahawk School Board during the construction of the new school complex. In 1963, John was employed by Reardon Drug Store in Rhinelander. He purchased the business in 1970 and ran it until his retirement.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman, proudly providing his family with meals of grouse, duck, fish and venison. He was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, serving as usher and trustee for many years. He also volunteered with the local Boy Scout troop.
On retiring he finally had time to travel, enjoying June trips to Ontario and spent seven summers fishing and exploring Alaska. He especially enjoyed sharing his adventures with his children and grandchildren. The highlight of his year was deer season at his ‘40’ with his sons and grandson.

John is survived by his wife Shirley, his daughter Julie Lacrosse, two sons Richard of Crandon and Daniel of Rhinelander, his grandchildren, Scott Lyndsay) Lacrosse, Kristine (Dustin) Petersen and Elizabeth (Levi) Litke and his great grandchildren Lola, Lucas, Kinley, Rayah and Ryker, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services for John will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the St. Mark Lutheran Church with the Reverend Richard Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 22, 2018, also at the St. Mark Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St, Mark Lutheran Church or the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. You may leave your private condolences for the Jesse family at www.carlsonfh.com.
