Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" Zunk

Gerald "Jerry" Zunk, age 77, of Rhinelander, died on January 25, 2018, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was born on December 16, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI to William and Virginia (Peterson) Zunk. Jerry grew up in the Milwaukee area and graduated from the South Milwaukee HS in 1958. He went on the receive his Bachelors Degree in Education in 1964 from the UW Milwaukee and then taught high school in the Milwaukee area. First in Hustisford, then Rufus King and then South Division until his retirement.He received his Masters in teaching from Winona State. Jerry also loved all sports and coached many different sports and grades during his teaching career. He led his Rufus King football team to numerous city championships. Jerry also coached with the West Allis Spartans, a semi pro team.
Jerry also loved to participate in any and all competitions, whether it be cards, bowling, softball and his real love, golf. Jerry would play or try anything to compete. Jerry was a longtime member of the Rhinelander Country Club and he enjoyed the golf but more importantly the many and lasting friendships he made. He loved the Fritz, the morning game, his outing each year with his Milwaukee buddies and his annual pilgrimage to Gulf Shores.

Jerry married Suzanne Saxler, his high school sweetheart on September 8, 1962 in South Milwaukee. They lived in the Milwaukee area until moving to Rhinelander permanetely in the early 2000's. They had summered in Rhinelander since the early 1970's.

Jerry is survived by his wife Suzanne "Sue", his daughter Linda Garman, his sons James(Colette) Zunk and Bradley (Sandy) Zunk, his grandchildren Samantha (Brad) Spicer, Jason (Maggy), Sarah (Joshua Jones), Jacob, Matthew, Nicholas and Grace, his great grandchildren Rosabelle, Jude, Maverick, Zander, Lincoln and Ashton, his sister Judith (Joseph) Costa, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 7:00 PM, with visitation from 4;00 to 7:00 PM all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Deacon William Miller will officiate.
