Obituary for Daniel Alan Strand

Daniel A. Strand, 53, passed away on February 4th, 2018 after a heroic battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He was born on May 17, 1964 to Phillip and Nancy (Norsen) Strand in Rockford, IL. His family moved to Minocqua in 1976 where he graduated from Lakeland Union High School in 1982. Dan graduated from Ripon College in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Education. Later in life he earned his Master’s Degree in Education.

Dan dedicated his life to teaching. In 1987, Dan started his first public school educator position as a Math and Physics teacher in the Argyle School District where he met the love of his life, Candice (Candy) Harris. After 4 years they moved to Rhinelander and he began teaching in the Elcho School District where over the next 25 years he encouraged and challenged his high school students to succeed.

When Dan wasn’t teaching or furthering his education, he was enjoying all of his life passions. He was always spending time with his family and friends, cooking, listening to music and laughing. He had a passion for golfing and bowling and gained many friends through weekly leagues. More recently the highlight of each week was the visits from his grandsons.

Dan is survived by his wife of 30 years, Candy; daughters Lauren (David) Sackett and Jordan Strand; grandsons Sawyer and Hunter Sackett all of Rhinelander. He is further survived by his parents Phillip and Nancy of Minocqua; sister Cindy (Scott) Stuewe of Geneva, IL; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and great great friends.

A Memorial service for Dan will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Noon, with visitation from 10:00 AM until Noon, all at the Carlson Funeral Home. You may leave your private condolences for the Strand family at www.carlsonfh.com. Memorial donations will be contributed to MSA research at Mayo Clinic in memory of Dan.
