Obituary for Charles Anthony Jewell Jr

Charles A Jewell Jr., age 88, of Rhinelander, died on March 6, 2018, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Charles was born on March 25, 1929 in Rhinelander to Charles and Bernice (Zarm) Jewell. He attended schools in the Starks area and then the Rhinelander High School. Charles entered the US Air Force before graduating from high school. He not only then served his country but also received his GED while in the Air Force.

Upon Charles honorable discharge from the Air Force he returned to Rhinelander where he married the former Doris Miller. He went to work for the Rhinelander Telephone Company and was with them until his retirement in 1984. He and Doris then traveled and volunteered with their new found spare time. He served with the Lion’s Club for many years and was involved with many of their activities. He loved to see the joy of those helped by the efforts of the Lion’s Club. He especially loved the trips to Mexico with eyeglasses for those who cannot see. Charles also served as the President of the Union for the telephone company for many years. He loved the outdoors and the northwoods.

Charles is survived by his wife Doris, his daughters Deborah (Michael) Voigt of Hilton Head, SC and Peggy (Bruce) Nelson of North Pole, AL, his son Jimmie (Anne) Jewell of Atlanta, GA, his six granddaughters, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Richard and Clarence.

Visitation for Charles will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Carlson Home. Graveside services and interment will immediately follow the visitation at the Forest Home Cemetery in Rhinelander.
