Myron George Wanty, age 68 of Rhinelander, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012, at his home under the care of Ministry Hospice. He was born on October 17, 1943, in Rhinelander to Hugh and Marie Wanty. Myron graduated from Rhinelander High School 1962. He then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he was a life member of V.F.W. Post 3143 where he participated as a member of the color guard and was a member of the American Legion. He also served on the selective service board for five years. Myron was employed at the Rhinelander Paper Company for 26 years. While at the mill, he was active on the fire brigade, served on the bargaining committee of the Union Local 15, and was president of the Cental Labor Council. Myron married Dawn Guolee on August 26, 1989, in Rhinelander. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bundy; serving as trustee and elder. Myron enjoyed golfing and played in the Edgewater Country Club Men's League. He also enjoyed family picnics and gatherings, cards including poker, and hunting. He earned the nickname "Dead Eye" during his time hunting at Journey's End Cabin. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Myron is survived by his wife, Dawn Wanty of Rhinelander; two daughters, Megan (Nick) Danielczak of Hancock, MI and Michelle (Jake Jensen) Wanty of Rhinelander; a son, Andy Houg of Rhinelander; a step-son, Tracy Guth of Texas; a grandson, Austin Danielczak; two sisters, Marie Krueger of Port Washington, WI and Lynn (Jack) Elliott of Rhinelander; and three brothers, Eugene (Carol) Wanty of Phoenix, AZ, Ray (Eleanor) Wanty of St. George, UT, and Bill (Wendy) Wanty of Rhinelander. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Kristy; four sisters, Mary Jane Colorez, Alice Mount, Margaret Dailey, and Helen Schultz, and three brothers, Bernie, Robert, and Jim Wanty. Funeral services for Myron will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Rhinelander with Rev. Allen Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Northland Memorial Park.
