Winifred Jane Manning, age 95, of Rhinelander, died on April 21, 2012 at the Friendly Village in Rhinelander. She was born on January 1, 1917 in Escanaba, Michigan to Alvin and Esther(Lundin)Eddy. Her family moved to Rhinelander where Jane then attended schools, graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1935. She married Harmon Manning on October 1, 1939 and together they raised six daughters and enjoyed sixty years of marriage. Jane was active with different interests her entire life. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Friendly Village teaching ceramics and was a member and volunteer of the Rhinelander Historical Society. Earlier in life she was a regular participant in the "Little Theatre" and the "Rhinelander Stunt Night". She especially loved children, her own and others. She volunteered many hours and many years with the Camp Fire Girls and at the Nicolet College Daycare. Jane also enjoyed writing as she kept a daily journal her entire life and also wrote poetry. She was a kind and caring lady, who will be missed by many. Jane is survived by her six daughters; Joan(John)Kucharski of Rhinelander, Elillias(Jack)Perlberg of Oshkosh, WI, Emeline(Dennis)Nitzel and Penny(Don)Krouze both of Rhinelander, Jennifer Manning of Arizona and Sara(Jim)Rice of Rhinelander; her twenty one grandchildren, forty one great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harmon on August 18, 2000, four sisters and six brothers. Memorial services for Jane will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Rebecca Niese officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until just prior to the services at the church. A memorial is being established in Jane's name and can be directed to her family. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414/www.carlsonfh.com) is handling the arrangements for the Manning family.
