George W. Stebbins, age 81 of Three Lakes, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born on November 9, 1929, in Edgerton, Wisconsin to Willard and Winnifred (Pells) Stebbins. George graduated from Edgerton High School and spent much of his life in the Edgerton area. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, George married the former Dorothy Young on December 26, 1954, and together, they raised their family of three children. George farmed and was employed by the Edgerton School District before moving to Rhinelander in 1972 where he owned and operated Trails End Grocery Store until 1976. He was then employed by the Rhinelander School District until his retirement in 1990. At that time, he and Dorothy moved to Three Lakes where they maintained a cottage since 1967. George remodeled his home and enjoyed time spent fishing, boating, and traveling. He was an avid sports fan. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. George is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Three Lakes; three daughters, Joan Stebbins of Three Lakes, Cheryl (Fred) Kunze of Pelican Lake, and Betty (Steven) Hicks of Rhinelander; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for George will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com)with Chaplain John Uhlarik officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. |
