Lowell W. Carlson, age 87 of Rhinelander, died on February 3, 2011 in Rhinelander. He was born on April 16, 1923, in Rhinelander to John and Anna Carlson. Lowell was born and raised in Rhinelander and graduated from Rhinelander High School. During World War II, he supported the war effort as a welder in the shipyards at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Following the war, he returned to Rhinelander where he began his employment with the Rhinelander Paper Company; working there for over 40 years until his retirement. Lowell was an accomplished builder and he built numerous homes in the area. Lowell also owned and operated Carlson's Lakeview Cottages on Lake Thompson for many years. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. He loved all sports especially the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers. He also loved wintering in Florida. Lowell will be fondly remembered as a "hard working Swede" who found satisfaction in a job well done. Lowell is survived by his wife, Eleanore "Ellie" Carlson of Rhinelander; two daughters, Kathleen (Jerry) Baker and Jean (Russell) Fish both of Rhinelander; his son, James (Sylvia) Carlson of Rhinelander; step-daughter, Deborah (Doug) Jackson of Yellville, AR; two step-sons, Michael Dent of Appleton, WI and Robert Anderson of Neenah, WI; six grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Sidney, Jody, Ryan, and Tara; six step-grandchildren, Austin, Anakin, Julie, Jonathon, Darrell and Ty; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Rayburn,Lillian, Esther, Virginia, Edna, and Elin; a brother, Clarence; and a stepson Harold Anderson. Funeral services for Lowell will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the Carlson Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Northland Memorial Park.
