Ruth A. Weisling, age 75 of Rhinelander, died on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Taylor Park, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 23, 1935, in Rhinelander to Fred and Lela Maas. Ruth attended Zion Lutheran School and a trade school in Rhinelander. She married Frank Sparks in 1953. They later divorced. She married Robert Weisling, the love of her life, in 1973. Ruth worked in Milwaukee at Frabil Manufacturing and held several cleaning jobs. The biggest and best job she ever held was that of being a mom to six kids and "adopted" kids and a grandmom. This is a job she did with all the love, pride, and devotion any mom could do. She would let us bring home stray pets and lots of stray kids. Our house was always full and even though we didn't have a lot, she managed to feed them all. She will be greatly missed by all these kids and friends. Ruth is survived by her four daughters, Barbara (Jerry) O'Brien and Debbie Alsteen both of Milwaukee and Lorena (Pat) Klunder and Wilma (Dean) Mullins both of Rhinelander; her grandchildren, Becky Miller, James Gomez, Amy (Joe Struck) Sparks, Chrissy (Jerry) Schreiber, Cory (Bert) Burns, Jennie Alsteen, Adam (Cheryl) Sparks, Kurtis (Satina) Klunder, Jessica (Erin) Schroeder, Shaun Sparks, Leela (Carl Hankey) Klunder, Lisa Sparks, and Joey Mullins; her great grandchildren, Amanda, Brianna B., Brianna S., Jonathan, Cameron, Abbi, Zack, Sarah, Wesley, Ethan, and Raelynn; daughters-in-law, Debbie Sparks of Rhinelander and Marsha Sparks of Iola; and her brother, Fred (Merlyn) Maas of Rhinelander. Ruth is further survived by her special friend, Delores Vozka; her "adopted" kids, Debbie and Jim Wittmann, Mary and Dave Stilen, Sheila and Mike Sievwright, and Jeanne Jasper; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her sons, Mike Sparks on July 4, 2007 and Wes Sparks on January 23, 2008; her grandson, Cameron; her great grandson, James; and an infant sister. Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) with Rev. James Mickelson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010, at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
