Richard "Rick" Sumiejski, age 52 of Rhinelander, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 1, 1958, in Milwaukee, WI to Leroy and Maryann (Pallen) Sumiejski. Rick attended Milwaukee Boys Tech and then served in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, he traveled around the country before returning to Milwaukee where he was employed as a welder and fabricator with Spancrete. He married the former Jane Mikulski on June 7, 1986, and together, they began their family in Milwaukee, moving to Burlington, and then moving to the Northwoods in 1996. Rick began his employment with Red Arrow in Rhinelander in 2000 and as part of the company's apprenticeship program, attended Northcentral Technical College in Wausau; earning his certification as an electrical and instrumentation technician in 2007. Rick was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting with his son and the "guys" as well as fishing. He was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jane on September 25, 2001. Rick is survived by his two children, Megan Sumiejski of Milwaukee and Kyle Sumiejski of Rhinelander; his companion, Michelle Conrath of Rhinelander and her daughter, Joanna; his brother, James (Liz) Sumiejski of Ohio; two sisters, Carol (Ken) Kern and Patricia (Mike) Kummerow both of Milwaukee; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Mikulski and Tony (Renee) Mikulski both of Princeton, WI; and a sister-in-law, Stephanie (Mike) Walloch of Fall Creek, WI. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Rick will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) with Pastor Dan Wolff officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Additional visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral Home, 1515 W. Oklahoma Avenue in Milwaukee. Committal services with military honors will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at Southeast Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Please meet at the cemetery. |
