Alma H. Riegert, age 104 of DePere and formerly of Elcho, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Angel's Touch Assisted Living. She was born on May 4, 1906, in Kolberg / Door County, Wisconsin to Ferdinand and Ida (Buege) Miller. Alma attended Emanuel Lutheran School and Kolberg Public School before graduating from Brussels High School. She married Peter Riegert on August 26, 1950, in Enterprise, WI and he preceded her in death on November 14, 1991. Alma graduated from the Door-Kewaunee Teacher's College and the Wisconsin State Teacher's College of Stevens Point where she earned her bachelor's degree. She continued her studies in pursuit of a master's degree in library science from the UW-Madison, UW-Oshkosh, and St. Norbert College. Alma began her teaching career in the Enterprise State Grade School and then joined the staff of the Elcho High School where she taught English. At Elcho, she also served as a certified librarian, drama coach, and year book advisor for many years. Alma was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Enterprise where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was also active in the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Wisconsin Retired Teacher's Association, and held a life membership in the Wisconsin Education Association. Alma enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband, Pete, reading, gardening, and flower culture but her greatest joy was serving as a teacher to her students. In addition to her husband, Alma was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Martha, Emma, and Hattie, and five brothers, Art, Leo, Al, Clarence, and Harvey. Alma is survived by a sister-in-law, LuVergn Miller of Kolberg; nephews, Terry (Pam) Miller of Kolberg, Rick (Sandra) Miller of Kolberg, and Kenneth (Doris) Miller of Two Rivers; nieces, Cheryl (Ron) Waise of DePere and Carole (Henry) Eckel of Sturtevant; Pete's nieces and nephews, Beverly Clark, Carole Riding, and Howard, Eugene, and Ron Hollingsworth. She is further survived by great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services for Alma will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church in Enterprise with Rev. Neil Varnum officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) in Rhinelander and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Interment will in the Enterprise Cemetery.
