Victor P. Koenig, age 85, of Rhinelander, died on March 10, 2010, in Peachtree City, Georgia. He was born on August 21, 1924 in Waukegan, IL to Albert and Lillie(Iseral)Koenig. He graduated from the Libertyville High School and then attended the University of Illinois. Vic served with the US Army's Company B during WW II from July of 1943 until his honorable discharge in January of 1946. Most of his service was in the South Pacific. He married Marilyn Luethy on May 9, 1953 in Rhinelander. They made their home in Rhinelander where Vic was employed for many years by Mel's Trading Post as the head mechanic and service manager. He retired in 1990. He was a longtime, active member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served on the church council a number of times and was a member of the choir for many years. He enjoyed many activities which included hunting, fishing and especially gardening. Each year he devoted many hours to his vegetable garden. Vic is survived by his wife Marilyn of Rhinelander, his daughter Mary Beth(Gary)Eckhardt of Peachtree City, GA, his two sons David(Donna)Koenig of Wyoming, MN and Timothy(Sandra)Koenig of Mahtomedi, MN and his five grandchildren Christopher, Laura, John, Samuel and Megan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gertrude, and his brothers Wilbert and Elmer. Funeral services for Vic will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend David Sternberg officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Carlson Funeral Home and Monday, from 10:00 AM until just prior to the services, at the church. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial is being established in his name for the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and can be directed to his family. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414/www.carlsonfh.com) is handling the arrangements for the Koenig family.
