Maria "Mutti" and "Oma" Lieder, age 75 of Rhinelander, died Friday, February 26, 2010, at her home with her family by her side. She was born on November 7, 1934, in Germany to Heinrich and Agnes Glasser. Maria made the journey to the United States by ship; arriving in Florida on January 6, 1960. She resided in Florida, Chicago, IL, and Hustisford, WI before moving to Rhinelander in 1976 where she and her family operated the Fenlon Hotel. Following her time with the hotel, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting and donated many hats, mitts, and stockings to children and families in the community. She also enjoyed baking and her pets but mostly she filled her days being Mutti and Oma to her family and friends. She will be fondly remembered as a woman who shared much love with those around her and was greatly loved in return. Maria is survived by her four children, Peter (Jeannie) Lieder of Mole Lake, Roswitha (Dan) Ottman of Rhinelander, Ute (Steve) Stampfl of Rhinelander, and Mikel (Kathy) Lieder of Irma; 13 grandchildren, Bruce, Jason, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Jacob, Jeremiah, Jasmine, Justin, Tara, Misty, Brooke, Renee, and Ryan; 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Gerda of Germany; two brothers, Gunter and Reinhardt both of Germany; and special friend, Barb. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Siegried Lieder who preceded her in death on January 8, 2001; and two sisters, Hildegard and Lily. Funeral services for Maria will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Nativity of Our Lord / St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.
