Karl D. Robinson, age 79 of Rhinelander, died Thursday, February 11, 2010, at his home. He was born on October 29, 1930, in White Lake, Wisconsin to Frank and Ida (Simmons) Robinson. Karl graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1949 and later married his wife, the former Shirley Bisping. He was employed by Rhinelander Paper Company for over 40 years until retiring in 1992. He was very active in the Union at the mill. Karl loved to work in the woods; cutting and splitting wood, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed many sports, especially Babe Ruth Baseball and RIA Youth Hockey. He will be remembered as a man who loved his children very much and found special joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Karl is survived by his three daughters, Renee (Tom) Kupczak and Cindy Robinson both of Rhinelander and Cathy Burch of Minong, WI; five grandchildren, Amy Lou Phipps (Roy Rich) and "Spike" Richard Burch both of Minong, Anna Kupczak (Dustin Piehl) of Oconomowoc, WI and Brad (Jami) Kupczak and Chris (Angie) Kupczak both of Somerset, WI; five great grandchildren, Tyler, Keirsten, Abby, and Lexy Kupczak all of Somerset and Ella Ann Rich of Minong; three sisters, Helen (Dale) Gerdes, Betty (Sonny) Sowinski, and Nancy (Tom) Ives all of Rhinelander; his brother, Roger (Mary) Robinson of Rhinelander; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ida; his wife, Shirley Bisping Robinson; his son, Jim Robinson; two sons-in-law, Dick Burch and Tom Hackett; and five brothers, Fred, Gene, Jim "Bud", Raymond "Laverne", and Dick Robinson. Inurnment will take place in the spring in Forest Home Cemetery. Carlson Funeral Home (369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) is assisting Karl's family with arrangements. The family extends special thanks to Jacqui and Big Swede, friend and her therapy dog, Ministry Hospice and Home Care, and Helping Hands.
