Lillian "Pete" Mikkelson, of Big Bend and formerly of Rhinelander, found peace on December 28, 2009, after a courageous battle with heart disease but her will and strength lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was born on November 30, 1936, in Rhinelander, WI to Charles and Virginia (DeNoyer) Smith. Lillian is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Douglas M. Mikkelson; mother-in-law, Beulah Mikkelson of Rhinelander; her daughters, Terri Smith of Ironwood, MI, Dawn (Brad) Minor of Cartersville, GA, JoEllen (Dave) Schneider of Hartland, Marikay (Tim) Dulka of Big Bend, and Tracie (Harvey) Kuehl of Genesee; her son, David (Roxanne) Mikkelson of Appleton; sisters, Shriley (Leroy) Petersen, Darlene (Dewaine) Mattek, Yvonne (Gilbert) Daugherty, and Marti (Mat) Smith; brothers, Donald (Rosemary) Smith, Louis (Margo) Smith, Charles (Kathy) Smith, William (Julie) Smith, and Douglas (Pam) Smith; 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virginia; father-in-law, Nels Mikkelson; and brothers, Jimmy and Roger Smith. Funeral services for Lillian will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Carlson Funeral Home (369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) with Rev. James Mickelson officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Donations to the American Heart Foundation in Lillian's name would be appreciated.
