Elverna Ziminski, age 96, died Monday, November 23, 2009, in Rhinelander. She was born Elverna Prothero on April 8, 1913, in Cass Lake, Minnesota. Elverna graduated from Cass Lake High School and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. She met Henry Ziminski, who worked in that area for the U.S. Forest Service, and they were married in 1938. They remained a "Forest Service family" for 37 years, stationed in several Minnesota locations, then Missouri, Rhinelander, Milwaukee, and Ogden, Utah, where they retired in 1975. In 1985, they moved to Rhinelander (their favorite place), where they resided since. Henry passed away in 2003. Elverna is survived by her son, Richard; grandson, Daniel; great-granddaughter, Leah, all of whom live in the Boston, MA area, and Elverna's sister, Doris Messner, who lives in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota. A memorial gathering will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Josephine Haus, 1450 W. Phillip Street in Rhinelander. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. In place of flowers, the family would prefer memorials in honor of Elverna be directed to the Josephine Haus at the address above, for the benefit of the residents, where Elverna and Henry received loving care, companionship, and comfort for the past nine years. Checks may be payable to Josephine Haus, with a notation "Elverna Ziminski Fund." Carlson Funeral Home (369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) assisted Elverna's family with arrangements.
