Genevieve Erickson, age 98 of Antigo and formerly of Rhinelander, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Eastview Medical and Rehab Center. She was born as Andriana Cornelia Schoone on February 17, 1911, in Fijnaart, Holland to Matthew and Cornelia (Diercks) Schoone. Genevieve came to this country with her family at the age of four and they settled in Northcote, Minnesota. She married Erick Erickson on July 5, 1926, in Ewen, Michigan. Together, they resided in the Town of Enterprise for 25 years before moving to Rhinelander in 1961. Health concerns caused her to move to Antigo in 1999. While in Rhinelander, Genevieve was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. A special event in her life was traveling to Korea to visit her son, Donald and his family. First and foremost, Genevieve was a dedicated wife and mother who loved caring for her family. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, cards, and simply visiting with family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for the strength, warmth, and kindness she shared with all who knew her. Genevieve is survived by two daughters, Elna Erickson of Rhinelander and Kay (Gerald) Black of Deerbrook; a son, Donald (MinHui) Erickson of Madera, CA; 16 grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erick on August 23, 1988; two sons, Arvid and Elroy; a daughter-in-law, Nannette; a son-in-law, Alfred Rolain; a granddaughter, Yasamyne Erickson; three sisters; and three brothers. Funeral services for Genevieve will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at Nativity of Our Lord / St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rhinelander with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Enterprise Cemetery.
