Grant Van Gorder, age 84 of Rhinelander, died Monday, October 26, 2009, at his home. He was born on September 19, 1925, in Wisconsin Rapids to Archie and Ella Van Gorder. Grant proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. During his working career, he was involved in a number of endeavors including managing a cranberry marsh, manager at the Wausau Municipal Airport, and serving as a manager for Petrolane Gas Company. Throughout his life, Grant was an avid hunter and fisherman and in retirement, took up bowling. Grant is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Scott) Woodford and Jeryl (James) Perenich both of Rhinelander; a son, Rob Van Gorder of Sebastopol, CA; a special friend, Evelyn Henning of Rhinelander; three grandchildren, Amanda Woodford and Marna (Ken) Winnicki both of Rhinelander and Matthew (Sylvana) Perenich of Madison; three great grandchildren, Makenna and Abishea Winnicki and Hayden Perenich; and his loyal pet companions, Bud and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Grace Kluth and Lucille Brockman. Private family services will be held at a later date.
