Viola Walti, age 83 of Rhinelander, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born on November 20, 1925, in Spencer, Wisconsin to Benjamin and Myra (Cole) Vanderhoof. Viola was raised in Spencer and there, married her husband, Harold Walti on October 18, 1946. They moved to Rhinelander and then purchased their farm in the Town of Crescent in 1958. In addition to raising her family and caring for the farm, Viola was involved with the Town of Crescent Election Board and assisted her husband in his duties as the Town Clerk. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Viola enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Her garden was very important to her and anyone who passed by would appreciate its size and beauty. Always active in her outdoor pursuits; Viola bagged a nine point buck in 1993, used her cross bow to down a seven point buck last year, and learned to drive a four wheeler in 2003. Viola was a loving mother and grandmother. Always a great cook who made sure you never left hungry; her home was open to all. She was known as grandma to many people beyond her immediate family and she will be fondly remembered and appreciated for her kindness, generosity, and ability to forgive and love unconditionally. Viola is survived by four daughters, Priscilla (Robert) Sutherland of Modesto, CA, Deborah (James) Pueschner of Rhinelander, Trudi (James) Somers of Harshaw, and Denise (Mark) Van Strydonk of Tomahawk; three sons, Frank Walti of Suwanee, FL and Rudolph Walti and Dennis (Julie) Walti both of Rhinelander; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Lawrence of Brillion; two brothers, Archie (Nila) Vanderhoof of Arpin and Charles (Ruthie) Vanderhoof of Colby; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold on August 2, 1987; two daughters, Kathy and Prudence; and sisters and brothers. Funeral services for Viola will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Shearier officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Carlson Funeral Home (369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. |
