Lloyd Joseph Gauthier Sr., age 73 of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday evening, September 27, 2009. He was born on September 4, 1936, in Rhinelander to Patrick and Francis (Bergeon) Gauthier. Lloyd married the former Esther Ruhkick on August 30, 1963. He was employed by several area businesses including Burkhardt Farms, City Lumber and Supply, and Woolworth's. Lloyd was an avid dartball player and also enjoyed carpentry, gardening, and cats. In his later years, he especially enjoyed time spent with his loving wife, Esther, and spending time with his grandchildren. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 46 years, Esther of Rhinelander; three sons, Robert (Pamela) and Lloyd Jr. (Kim) both of Rhinelander and Patrick (Michele) of Arbor Vitae; two daughters, Susan Gauthier and Janet (Dan) Newby both of Rhinelander; grandchildren, Sean, Benjamin, Joshua, Danielle, Chelsea (Grandpa's Best Buddy), Kiah, Malia, and Hannah; a brother, Elmer (Lexine) of Rhinelander; a sister, Margaret Alsteen of Rhinelander; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tammy Marie; three brothers, Patrick, Ruben, and Harold; and two sisters, Agnes and Evelyn. A memorial service for Lloyd will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Grace Foursquare Church in Rhinelander followed by a luncheon.
