Rose Iris Matakovich, age 85, of Rhinelander, died on July 26, 2009 at her home. Iris was born on May 21, 1924, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to Albert and Dorothea(Jones)Morley. She is survived by her two daughters Barbara(Charles)Musial of Burlington, KY and Theresa(Rick)Schiff of Rhinelander; her two sons Allen(Markell)Matakovich of Burnsville, MN and Mark Matakovich of Rhinelander; and her three grandchildren, Nicole(Paul)Masse, Brad "Bubba" Musial and Jimmy Matakovich. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Pete, who died in 1996; two sisters, Phyllis and Dorothy; and a brother, Allen. Iris grew up in Kapuskasing, Ontario, having graduated from high school there, and met her husband, Pete, through mail correspondence during World War II. She married Pete and moved to Rhinelander in 1947. After raising her four children, she went to work at the Claridge Motor Inn where she worked in housekeeping for a number of years. Iris was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and always enjoyed being at a lake either playing cards or being around animals, especially the family dogs, "Levi" and "Collette". Funeral services for Iris will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church with Father Dean Einerson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Entombment will be in the Northland Garden Mausoleum.
