Elmer F. Drachenberg, age 83, of Rhinelander, died on July 22, 2009 at the Taylor Park in Rhinelander. He was born on August 1, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Henry and Eleanora(Rahn)Drachenberg. He attended schools in Chicago and then entered the US Naval Training School. Elmer served in the US Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theatre and China and he went through the Panama Canal a number of times. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the states and later married Esther Schlak on June 7, 1952. They lived in Lebanon, WI and then Oconomowoc where Elmer was employed as an industrial construction electrician. Elmer retired in 1983 and then moved to the Rhinelander area in 1989. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed football, baseball and traveling. Elmer is survived by his wife Esther of Rhinelander, his three daughters Yvonne, Linda(Spence) and Lori Drachenberg all of Rhinelander, his son Brian(Lisa)Drachenberg of Wales, WI, his two granddaughters Disa and Kali, his sister Marge Sloss of Lake Geneva, WI and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Edna Bender, Olga Petersen, Anne Gradisher, Lorraine Lambrose, and Ella Drachenberg and a brother in law Ralph Sloss. Funeral services for Elmer will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend's Timothy and Kari Vadis officiating. Visitation will be at the church that same day from 9:00 AM until just prior to the services. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial is being established in Elmer's name and can be directed to his family. The Carlson Funeral Hom (715-369-1414/www.carlsonfh.com) is handling the arrangements for the Drachenberg family.
