Joanne T. McGuire, age 65, of Rhinelander, died on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau. She was born on October 3, 1943 in Wausau to Anton and Angeline(Meronek)Flees. Her family moved to Rhinelander when Joanne was still a young girl. She then attended school in Rhinelander graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1961. She married Laurence McGuire on October 21, 1961 in Rhinelander and together they owned and operated Birchfield Nurseries. Joanne was a lifetime member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and she taught Catechism to the children of Cassian-Woodboro for a number of years. She enjoyed camping, gardening and especially her flowers. Other than the time spent with her dear grandchildren her second love was her flowers at home and at the nursery. Joanne is survived by her husband Laurence of Rhinelander, her two sons Larry(Betsy)McGuire of Stoughton, WI and Greg(Julie)McGuire of Rhinelander, her five grandchildren Allison, Stephanie, Darren, Brendan and Marisa, her two sisters Rita(Ken)Schnorr of Rhinelander and Patricia Mulder of Antioch, IL, her three brothers Kenneth and David Flees of Rhinelander and James(Rose)Flees of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services for Joanne will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish-St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:45 PM on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Carlson Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM until just prior to the services on Monday at the Church. Interment will be in the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery. A memorial is being established in Joanne's name and can be directed to her family.
