Aileen E. Nelson, age 85, of the St. Louis, MO area and formerly of Rhinelander, died on May 5, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 22, 1924, in Trout Creek, MI to Alexander and Amanda(Wayrynen)Besonen. After graduating from High School, Aileen attended the Western Union Academy. She was then employed by Western Union in Rhinelander where she met her future husband, Harold Nelson. Aileen and Harold were married in December of 1949, and made their home in Rhinelander for 58 years. Harold preceded Aileen in death on October 15, 2007, and it was shortly thereafter that she moved to the St. Louis area to be nearer to her family. While in Rhinelander, Aileen was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the altar guild and as a Sunday School teacher. Harold was a member of the Rhinelander Boat Club and Citizens Band Radio Club and Aileen also enjoyed participating in the activities of both of those clubs. She also enjoyed the many adventurous boat trips her family took which included trips across Lake Superior and on the Mississippi River. Most of all, she loved being with all of her family, regardless of the activity. Aileen is survived by her two sons, Thomas(Shelia)Nelson of Danville, CA and Douglas(Susan)Nelson of St. Louis, MO; her six grandchildren, Scott, Laura, Ryan, Kristen and Stephanie Nelson and Tricia Fullerton; her two great grandchildren, Madeline and Ava Fullerton; her two sisters, Elvira Swanson of Durango, CO and Lillian Jenewein of Cedar Rapids, IA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Aileen was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and four sisters. Funeral services for Aileen will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Carlson Funeral Home with the Reverend Norman Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Carlson Funeral Home and just prior to the services on Saturday. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.
