Karen J. Peter, age 69, of Rhinelander, died on April 14, 2009 at the the St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander. She was born in the Town of Bundy on December 3, 1939 to Marion and Stella(Bixby)Towne. Karen attended schools in Rhinelander graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1958. She married Bernard Peter on August 9, 1958 in Rhinelander at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Karen then was employed as a secretary for the Rhinelander School District for 28 years, retiring in 1999. Karen enjoyed gardening, flowers and just walking and being outdoors. Karen's real love was taking care of children, especially her grandchildren. Karen is survived by her husband Bernard of Rhinelander, her daughter Pamela(Scott)Haskins of Rhinelander, her son Curtis of Madison, WI, her five grandchildren Amanda, Shawn, Melissa, Matthew and Valentine, her great grandchild Dimitrius, two brothers Thomas(Maureen)Towne of Philadelphia, PA and Jeffrey(Sally)Towne of Rhinelander, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Gregory on November 11, 1995, her parents and a brother Dennis. Funeral services for Karen will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend's Timothy and Kari Vadis officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Carlson Funeral Home and just prior to the services on Saturday at the Church. Interment will be in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414/www.carlsonfh.com) is handling the arrangements for Karen's family.
