Rhinelander, Wisconsin

Francis D. "Frank" Lundberg, age 68 of Rhinelander, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at his home. He was born on June 26, 1940, in Rhinelander to Edwin and Nancy (Johnson) Lundberg. Frank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia (nee Martin); his son, Kimmy (Jackie) Lundberg of Flovilla, GA; his daughter, Francy (Kyle) Zastrow of Rhinelander; five grandchildren, Lawson, Layton, and John Lundberg, Shawn McCoy, and Ryley Zastrow; and two great grandchildren. Frank had eight siblings and is survived by his sister, Arlene (John) Roberts of Priest River, Idaho; four brothers, Eugene, James (Dorothy), Phillip (Donna), and Alan Lundberg all of Rhinelander; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, David, Kenneth, and Lawrence. Frank enjoyed hunting and fishing (especially trout), playing cards and cribbage, golf, billiards, and his many years of fast pitch softball league and tournament play. As a young man, he was employed as a logger in Forest Center, MN, and upon his return to the Rhinelander area, was employed at the Rhinelander Paper Mill for a brief time. He then entered the construction trades, initially with Dietz Construction and then for many years, independently; primarily as a mason. In retirement, he also drove for Rapid Cab. His sense of humor and candor will be greatly missed by family and friends. A gathering in honor of Frank will be held at a later date.
