Virginia "Jean" Gross, age 100 of Rhinelander, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Taylor Park Nursing Home. She was born on December 4, 1908, in the Town of Pine Lake to John and Christina (Hasselquist) Bernstein. Virginia married Roy Gross in 1932 in Rhinelander and together they raised their family of three children. She was a dedicated homemaker who was known for her cooking ability; especially when it came to her chocolate chip cookies. Virginia was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church and enjoyed the Milwaukee Brewers and time spent with her family. She witnessed many changes in her lifetime. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Pauline (Doug) Zwickey of Rhinelander; her two sons, Jim Gross and Jack (Mary) Gross both of Rhinelander; eight grandchildren, Mike (Karen) Piehl, Nancy (Calvin) Theroux, Thomas (Carrie) Zimmer, David (Annette) Zimmer, Stephen (Dena) Zimmer, Pam (Ken) Cychosz, Karen (Robert) Weight, and Jeff (Kathy) Gross; 18 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy on June 26, 1984; three sisters, Bernice Steinhart, Gladys Masten, and Viola Cebula; and eight brothers, Alex, Gunnar, Einar, Clyde, Dennis, Tom, Hilding, and Warren Bernstein. Funeral services for Virginia will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2009, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Norman Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Carlson Funeral Home (369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
