James Charles Maloney, age 90, formerly of Rhinelander and Antigo, Wisconsin passed away on April 7, 2009, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born on June 3, 1918, to Charles and Rose (Hafner) Maloney in Antigo, WI. James attended St. John's Grade School and graduated from Antigo High School. He was united in marriage with Lillian (Emmer) Maloney on October 19, 1940, and they celebrated their 63rd anniversary in 2003. They lived a rich, full life watching the wildlife and gardening along the beautiful Wisconsin River for over fifty years. Jim worked as a cheese maker and a contract U.S. Mail carrier in Rhinelander, WI. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Philippines. He moved to Souix Falls, SD in 2003 to be near family. James was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Souix Falls and was a former member of St. Mary's Parish in Rhinelander. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a lifelong member of VFW Post 3134 and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He is survived by sons, James R. Maloney (Diana Messick) of Sioux Falls, SD, Michael (Carolyn) Maloney of Garretson, SD, Patrick (Loren) Maloney of Grand Rapids, MI, and Timothy Maloney of Charleston, WV. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James Allen (Sara) Maloney, Jennifer Maloney, Ryan Maloney, Megan Maloney, Keith (Laura) Maloney, Michelle Maloney, Christopher (Marisa) Maloney; seven great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose; his wife, Lillian; and a daughter-in-law, Georgia Maloney. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009, at Nativity of Our Lord/St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rhinelander with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Carlson Funeral Home (369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) in Rhinelander and from 10 a.m. until the time of mass on Monday at the church. Entombment will follow in Northland Memorial Garden Chapel Mausoleum.
