Erwin "John" Lassig, age 90, of Rhinelander died Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 17, 1916, in Rhinelander to Julius and Mary (Scheidegger) Lassig. John graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1934. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He married the former Margaret Taylor on May 26, 1937, at St. Mary's Church in Rhinelander. He was a longtime employee of the Rhinelander Paper Company. John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. John is survived by his wife, Margaret of Rhinelander; three daughters, Lynne (Jack) Anderson, Jodie Lassig, and Kathy (Chuck) Kopp all of Rhinelander; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Butterfield of Rhinelander; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Schreiber; seven sisters; and six brothers. A memorial service for John will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2006, at Nativity of Our Lord / St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father John Gerritts officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 12 p.m. (noon) until the time of services on Friday at the church.
