Jay Bixby, age 87, of Rhinelander died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Taylor Park Nursing Home. He was born on December 28, 1918, in Bundy, Wisconsin to Rueben and Blanche (Hampel) Bixby. Mr. Bixby served in the U.S. Navy for four years during WW II and was stationed in Guam and on the West Coast. He married the former Lucille Dietz on November 15, 1941, in Rhinelander. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in Chicago as a carpenter for several years before returning to Rhinelander where he operated his own construction business and raised his family. He was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. He and Lucille enjoyed traveling and camping. Mr. Bixby was a fan of the Packers and Brewers and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Rhinelander; two daughters, Rae Anne (Thomas) Cheslock and Lana (Steve) Leighton both of Rhinelander; two sons, David Bixby and Daniel Bixby both of Rhinelander; three grandchildren, Shane Leighton, Jay (Kristen) Cheslock, and Michael Cheslock; four sisters, Judith (Frank) Everson, Pearl (Woodrow) Bettinger, Laura (Henry) Miazga, and Myrtle (Carl) Koprek all of Rhinelander; two brothers, Harry (Bonnie) Bixby and Leo (Gail) Bixby both of Bundy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Stella Towne; and four brothers, George, Fred, Richard, and James Bixby. Funeral services for Mr. Bixby will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Norm Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Carlson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. |
