Wayne Lund, age 88, of Rhinelander, died Friday, November 4, 2005, at Taylor Park Nursing Home. He was born on March 4, 1917, in Hermasville, Michigan to Merrit and Mae Lund. Wayne served in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He married the former Ruth Belski on August 2, 1952, in Rhinelander. He was employed as head mechanic for Salvano Brothers Construction in Racine until returning to Rhinelander in 1966. Together, Wayne and Ruth operated a dairy farm in the Town of Crescent. Wayne served on many agricultural committees including ASCS (Farm Services Agency) as chairman for over 15 years, Land Conservation, and Farmers Home Administration. Wayne enjoyed working with all things mechanical and spending time in his shop. He was always quick with a wink and a smile and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and love of the land. Wayne is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Rhinelander; a daughter, Margaret (Patrick) Steffen of Rhinelander; a son, James Lund of Charlotte, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Farrah Lund of LasVegas, NV; two sisters, Jeanette Koneceny of Milwaukee and Etta Mae (Marv) Axtell of Olympia, WA; three brothers, Merrit (Dorothy) Lund of Green Bay, Harley (Mert) Lund of Kenosha, and Jean (Jan) Lund of Rhinelander; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Smith. Memorial services for Wayne will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at the Carlson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Inurnment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
